Our Commitment

SetApart Ministries is committed to ensuring that Sleep Bible is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA and continuously work to improve the accessibility of our website and applications.

Accessibility Features

Sleep Bible includes the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard.
  • Screen reader support: Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and landmarks are used throughout the application.
  • Reduced motion: We respect the prefers-reduced-motion system setting. When enabled, decorative motion across the reading experience and the primary app chrome (atmospheric background drifts, the gradient sheen on the top bar, the slow pan behind verse imagery) is disabled or reduced. Essential indicators such as loading spinners may still move, and a few secondary surfaces are still being updated (see Known Limitations).
  • Color contrast: On our standard interface surfaces (the solid dark background and the frosted-glass panels), body text, controls, and interactive text meet WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text); the lightest functional text tone we use still measures above 6.8:1. Text shown over cinematic imagery is covered under Known Limitations below.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided on interactive elements such as buttons, links, and form fields.
  • Readable text size: We are raising functional text to a 16px minimum on phones across the app; the chapter reader and the sign-in and account screens already meet it. Content remains usable when text is zoomed to 200%.
  • Audio content: All narrated Bible chapters include synchronized verse text in Read mode, providing a text alternative to audio content.
  • Dark theme: The default dark theme reduces eye strain and is optimized for low-light environments.

Known Limitations

We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are actively working to address them:

  • Text over cinematic imagery: An optional visual mode shows Scripture over per-verse cinematic backgrounds. Over a bright image we cannot guarantee a fixed AA contrast ratio for text rendered directly on the image; legibility is protected by a darkening scrim behind the text (which strengthens when you enable your system’s “increase contrast” setting). Our measured AA contrast ratios apply to the solid and frosted-glass interface surfaces. You can turn verse imagery off in Display settings.
  • Non-text contrast: Some decorative interface boundaries (thin dividers, frosted-glass edges) have not been independently verified against the WCAG 1.4.11 non-text contrast criterion (3:1 for user-interface components).
  • 16px text rollout: Raising every functional control to the 16px phone-text minimum is in progress. The reading and sign-in surfaces are done; some secondary panels have not been updated yet.
  • Reduced motion on secondary surfaces: A few decorative animations on secondary marketing and promotional surfaces still play when reduce-motion is enabled. The reading, navigation, and sign-in surfaces honor the setting; we are gating the rest.
  • Some decorative animations (particle effects, aurora gradients) may not be fully described to assistive technologies. These are purely decorative and do not convey content.
  • The ambient sound mixer may have limited screen reader support for the volume sliders. We are working on improving this.
  • Some third-party embedded content (payment forms via Paddle) may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control.

Assistive Technology Testing

Sleep Bible is tested with:

  • VoiceOver (macOS and iOS)
  • NVDA (Windows)
  • Chrome DevTools Accessibility audit
  • Color-contrast verification against WCAG AA ratios
